Culinary Visionaries Behind Great Gold

Great Gold was founded by two powerhouse restaurateurs: David Steele, the executive chairman of the acclaimed Flour + Water Hospitality Group based in San Francisco, and Chef Brandon Kirksey, a James Beard Award nominee with a rich background in top kitchens including Flour + Water, Slanted Door, and Ethan Stowell’s renowned restaurants.


Together, Steele and Kirksey bring a distinct blend of culinary artistry, seasonal focus, and community engagement. Since opening the original Great Gold in Truckee, in 2020, they have embraced “mountain Italian” cuisine, highlighting house-made pastas, hyper-seasonal menus, and locally sourced ingredients. After relocating from San Francisco due to the pandemic, they expanded Great Gold’s presence and philosophy with new locations and exciting new projects like the French-inspired Tangerine Bistro.

What to Expect in Reno

Located at 7350 Rancharrah Parkway, Suite 160, Great Gold opens its doors Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guests can enjoy a thoughtfully curated menu showcasing:

  • Artisan pizzas baked in a hot oven with perfectly blistered crusts

  • Handmade pastas rolled in-house.

  • grilled meats and fresh seafood sourced from local farmers and purveyors

  • An evolving Italian wine list featuring selections exclusively from Italy

  • Crafted cocktails that blend classic and inventive flavors


The spacious venue accommodates 80 guests indoors and an additional 40 on the patio, perfect for everything from lively dinners to laid-back gatherings as well as a 40 seat private dining room.

Following the Reno debut, Great Gold is set to open soon in Roseville, California, taking over the former La Provence space and promising to deliver the same seasonal Italian fare, scratch-made pastas, and high-heat pizzas that have earned them acclaim.
